How to shine at an interview and get that job!

  • Do your homework. Research the company. Use the Internet to look at the company website. If you can show an understanding of the company you will look more interested and prepared.
  • Your Consultant at 22 Personnel will tell you as much about the job as possible. Analyse the job description and consider what the client is looking for from the successful applicant. Think about how your skills and background match their needs, and practice saying these out loud!
  • Ensure you understand the full description and ask your Consultant if you have any further queries or questions.
  • Plan your journey route. Your Consultant at 22 Personnel will ensure you have the address and can help you with maps/directions. Work out how you are going to get to the interview with plenty of time to spare. If possible do a “dummy” run a few days before the actual interview.
  • Think carefully about what to wear. Always dress smartly for an interview as the importance of first impressions cannot be overstated. Get your best suit out and polish your shoes! Make sure you look both smart and professional.
  • Be focused and confident. The more you prepare the more likely you are to enjoy the interview and get the most out of it. Remember the client has selected you to attend the interview, so they want to meet with you and hear about your suitability.
  • Remember interviews are a two-way process. You need to want the job, as much as they want you! Think about key questions that you would like to cover, including questions relating to career, training and company history. It is quite acceptable to write down your key questions and refer to them during the interview. Your 22 Personnel Consultant can help you with establishing your questions.
  • Think of examples to support your strengths and personality. So if you are saying that your are a person that copes well under stress, then say “…I cope well under stress and for example recently at work we had a situation…….”. These type of answers give the interviewer a clear view of how and when you have used your strengths in the workplace.
  • Remember to have fresh breath, a positive smile, and a firm handshake. These factors are essential to making the right first impression.
  • Once you are at the interview, wait to be asked to take a seat and then don’t fidget, but remain focused and alert. Watch your body language and make frequent eye contact, whilst maintaining good posture.
  • At the end of the interview, ask if they have any further questions and confirm that you are interested in the position. Leaving the interview on a positive is very important, so thank the interviewer for their time and tell them how much you’ve enjoyed the experience.
  • Always contact your 22 Personnel Consultant with your interview feedback ASAP. Without your feedback it is very difficult for your Consultant to progress your interview with the client.
